Exercise For Asthmatics
Many people who suffer from the effects of asthma think that because they have
asthma that they should not exercise.
Maybe they have tried and they suffered from exercise induced asthma or felt that they just couldn't get enough
air into their lungs while exercising. Actually, exercise for asthmatics is very beneficial to preventing asthma
symptoms and strenghtening the cardiovascular system.
Asthma is caused by the airways become inflamed and constricting which restricts airflow into the lungs which
causes difficulty breathing. By exercising, the asthmatic can strengthen the lungs and airways which will help
prevent the airways from constricting in the future.
The best exercise for asthmatics is just by doing mild exercise and slightly raising the pulse rate. You want to
very slowly start progressing into more vigorous exercise. This is very important because some people will try to
run a marathon right off the bat and have major problems. By slowly progressing, you will be strengthening and
building your lungs up to handle increased airflow.
I have seen people who were overweight and sedentary who suffered from severe asthma essentially rid themselves
of having to use any medications just by actually getting in shape and improving their cardiovascular fitness. Make
sure you work on some type of strength training as well as cardio and you will notice a big difference in your
asthma symptoms.
Also, be sure to have some type of fast acting medicine with you as well if you are going to be doing any
vigorous exercise. Even though you may not need it all the time, there may be something that can trigger an attack
and you want to be prepared just in case.
