Breathing Treatments For
Asthma
Asthma is a chronic condition with symptoms like wheezing, coughing and most
importantly difficulty breathing.
Asthma is controlled with medications and also some natural treatments such as acupuncture and diet changes.
Exercise can also be beneficial to someone with asthma because it strengthens the lungs and opens the airways.
Breathing treatments for asthma can also be used to control and prevent asthma symptoms.
When I talk about breathing treatments for asthma, I am referring to breathing exercises that will strengthen
and improve lung function. There are other breathing treatments such as using nebulizers that will be discussed in
other articles on this site.
The best type of breathing exercises to improve asthma symptoms is relaxed, deep breathing that will lower the
pulse rate, slow down the breathing rate and relax the airways. I am not going to go over the different breathing
exercises in this article because you can find many articles online covering these or whole books that will cover
different breathing techniques. These kinds of breathing treatments for asthma are to be used as preventive in
nature and will not stop a asthma attack.
Physical exercise is also a type of breathing technique because you are essentially strengthening your whole
cardiovascular system which will help in preventing asthma attacks. People who are sedentary in nature are prone to
more severe asthma symptoms than a person who keeps physically fit and has strong healthy lungs.
Of course, triggers can still set off an asthma attack at anytime in someone regardless of physical condition.
Therefore you should always have a fast acting medicine nearby such as a rescue inhaler. By using deep breathing
techniques and exercising regularly, you will actually be able to decrease your dependency on rescue inhalers
because you will have stronger, healthier lungs.
